I also liked how Warlock got to play a bigger role in this book, and there were even a couple sections of the story from his point of view. Don’t get me wrong, while I still think it’s hilarious that Holmes is a depicted as an eccentric and incompetent buffoon, it was a bit refreshing to see him become a stabilizing force for Watson for a.   Douglas Adams meets Arthur Conan Doyle in this delightfully absurd collection of six cases narrated by a Dr. Watson who’s teamed with a very unusual partner: Warlock Holmes, a consulting magician. As in the original stories, the good doctor has returned from the Afghan War down on his luck, only to stumble into an opportunity to share 5/5(3).

Warlock Holmes: A Study in Brimstone is told, as is the Holmes narrative tradition, from the perspective of John Watson, an army medic recently discharged. Without a penny to his name or a direction for his future, Watson eagerly takes up a sudden, somewhat unsettling offer .   It’s not just the fact that his name is Warlock and we highly suspect (especially after reading the blurb on the book cover) that magic flows through this Holmes. It’s more like we’re realizing for the first time in literary history that Watson is the one well-versed in deductive reasoning and investigative expertise, especially when it.

Watson is the one who revels in skills of observation and deduction, discovering a passion for reason and a love of the chase. The characters are so likable that they can pause their absurd antics to contemplate prejudice and privilege without missing a beat or falling out of their outrageous world. See, Ms. Watson was a woman of 42 years, and she had long dark hair cascading down from her head to fairly well below her shoulders. She had beautiful white skin, though it was somewhat tanned--just a little. Ms. Watson's body was the stuff of dreams--at least of Jack's dreams. At 42 years old, Ms. Watson was not a young, rock-hard, stick-thin.

It had a very interesting start, with Watson the normal human meeting Warlock Holmes and ending up rooming with him out of necessity. And the prediction of doom promised something interesting going on.

But after a while it just seemed to have no real point to it. It was more silly than funny, and after a while the oddness just got old/5(). All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Warlock Holmes A Study in Brimstone by G.S.

G.S. Denning. 4 stars out of 5. Book Blurb: Sherlock Holmes is an unparalleled genius who uses the gift of deduction and reason to solve the most vexing of crimes. Warlock Holmes, however, is an idiot. A good man, perhaps; a font of arcane power, certainly.

But he’s brilliantly dim. Frankly, he. Book One. John Watson's new room-mate is a sorcerer and hiding it poorly. Though he ought to be rebuilding his medical practice and reclaiming his right place in Victorian society, Watson keeps getting swept up in one Warlock Holmes caper after another.

The narrator, Watson, is witty and sarcastic. Well actually, let me just show you an example of the writing. Here is page one The first third of the book is one story.

Holmes is a bit of a goof really while Watson seems more likely than even in Doyle's stories because, as a medical man one would expect him to be clever/5(9).

‎The game’s afoot once more as Holmes and Watson face off against Moriarty’s gang, the Pinkertons, flesh-eating horses, a parliament of imps, boredom, Surrey, a disappointing butler demon, a succubus, a wicked lord, an overly-Canadian lord, a tricycle-fight to the death and the dreaded Pumpcrow.

Oh, /5(5).Watson is as witty as ever, and if anything, he’s even funnier in this book with a more sardonic and snarkier edge to his humor.

Likewise, Warlock Holmes is still a loveable, blundering weirdo. Also, while I found the comedy in last couple of volumes to be slightly more slapstick, this one returns to a more balanced state between the subtle.
